Kevin Fernandez Blog #2
To start off, I think having a good project like this was very useful and somewhat interesting at least for me. Not only because of who I did or my timeline, but I also got to learn other timelines. This helped me learn about new people and get more knowledge about our history. This also explain why they were so important explaining how they helped shape our country in so many different ways. It also showed how confident and nervous some are, but they still did a great job presenting their person. overall, this assignment it not only good to get out of our comfort zone but also makes you realize what you can improve by seeing others present.
Secondly, the first group talked about the constitutional authors. Each person explained someone who helped build the early United States. DorisAnn talked about James Madison. I really liked how they explained everything by saying how he helped design the government and later became the fourth president. Fiorella presented Benjamin Franklin and explained how he was a writer, inventor, and one of the people who worked on the Declaration of Independence she did an amazing job with showing pictures. Adrienne talked about Alexander Hamilton and how he helped create the U.S. financial system overall explain how this played an important role moving forward with our country. Camila presented George Mason and explained his ideas about rights and government. Angelina talked about George Washington and how his leadership helped people trust the new government. Brooke finished the group by presenting Robert Sherman and explaining his role in the Great Compromise. Overall, this group showed me how the founding fathers helped start the country and how they created a strong solid foundation.
Furthermore, my group presented next and talked about changemakers from the 1800s. If you were to ask me, I think this timeline did the most when it comes to rapid industrialization playing a big role in our economy. Jehu started our group and still gave a good presentation even though he came late. Jero presented next and explained his topic well. Jennifer was the third presenter and talked about Florence Nightingale. She explained how Nightingale helped improve nursing and hospital care which a lot of people underappreciate what they do for us and our people. Giuliana talked about Clara Barton. Out of a lot of people, I think her part stood out the most for me because of how well she explained it. She talked about the founder of the Red Cross, and she even included an interview with someone from the organization, which made her presentation really interesting. I presented Andrew Carnegie and explained how he became a major leader in the steel industry in other words a titan just like Rockefeller. I also mentioned about how he donated a lot of his money to libraries, education, and other public projects helping our school systems. I think my presentation went well because I had a lot of information and strong visuals to explain his impact. Krystian finished our group by talking about John D. Rockefeller and how he built a huge oil company and later helped support education. These two titans were extremely good at business basically taking out all other type of competition and that’s what made them stand out. Our group showed how people in the 1800s helped grow businesses and improve society.
Next, the third group talked about changemakers from the 2000s. Ricardo talked about Barack Obama and his leadership during the 2008 recession which wasn’t easy as a president because a lot of people lost jobs and even bigger their houses. Luciana presented Vivek Murthy and explained his work as Surgeon General and his focus on mental health which is also very important because without good mental health you don’t get far. Louie talked about Ketanji Brown Jackson and how she became the first Black woman on the Supreme Court becoming an important milestone not only for our history. but our future Aswell. Griselly presented George W. Bush and talked about his presidency. Monica talked about Stacey Abrams and her work helping people register to vote which also played a big role. Madelay presented Alejandro Mayorkas and explained his role as Secretary of Homeland Security. Giselle finished the group by talking about Sonia Sotomayor and her career in the Supreme Court. This group had a lot of good information and clearly did strong research.
The last group talked about changemakers from the 1900s. Raquel presented Alice Paul and her work fighting for women’s voting rights. Yanasey talked about Martin Luther King Jr. and his role in the civil rights movement helping us be one as a group instead of being separate and all through peace. Sandra presented Ruth Bader Ginsburg and explained the challenges she faced as a woman in law and how many look down at women in these types of professions just because they are a woman which is unfair because we are equal no matter gender or race. Yen talked about Jonas Salk and how he created the polio vaccine which helped our country and no more reported cases since 2023. Terrell presented Nelson Mandela and his fight against racial injustice. Elizabeth finished by talking about Betty Friedan and her work in the women’s rights movement.
Finally at the end, the class managers Cassandra and Hailie summarized the presentations and reviewed the changemakers from each time period. And if I had something to say it would be how they always do an excellent job explaining and summarize what all the groups do. They do great at helping connect all the presentations together and showed how people from different time periods helped shape history.
In conclusion, these presentations helped me learn more about important people in history and what change these people had in evolving our country. It also helped me think about my own presentation skills and what ways I could have done better by seeing others speak Aswell as their work. Everyone had different ways of presenting, like using videos, interviews, or slides which also made it less boring because it wasn’t just the same format back-to-back. Overall, this assignment taught me about history, but it also helped me learn about public speaking and being prepared so to me it was a fun group project because I liked the person I picked.
Great and I am so glad you enjoyed the project!
