These past weeks in my speech class, we had four groups who presented different chapters from our public speaking textbook. Together, all of these presentations helped build and fully explain all the elements which go into being an effective speaker and presenter. Rather than just reading about public speaking strategies, we were able to see them in action through our classmates delivery styles, slide designs, and organization. As I watched all the groups present, it was able to give me the chance to reflect on what works well, what could be improved, and how I personally performed when it was my turn to speak. Seeing these concepts being applied in real presentations made the material feel more realistic and useful, especially because we will have to use these skills throughout the rest of the course. Overall, I think these presentations helped me better understand how preparation, organization, and delivery all come together to create an effective speech.  ...

BLOG POST #1      This new year started with a new semester of college (being my second), which came with four new classes to take, one being public speaking. During my time so far in public speaking, my classmates were all assigned to a group where we all worked together to make projects come to fruition. We recently completed our first project, which was all about the fundamentals and characteristics of a public speech. Each group made their own PowerPoint and presented their information found on Cengage based on their specific assigned chapters. In this blog, I will be reviewing and criticizing each group's presentation, so nowhere better to start than my own group:     Group 2:      For group 2's presentation, I worked with Kevin on chapter 4. To speak on my behalf, I did okay. I was very nervous the night before because I knew I was going to be presenting in front of many other people, even though it was over a Zoom call, I knew th...

As our first major assignment in Introduction to Public Speaking with Professor Sinkoff, every group was assigned a chapter from the textbook Engage and had to present it to the class. My group was Group 2, and our topic was about preparing for a successful presentation. In the beginning, I felt unsure about working in a group because I have had some bad group experiences before. I was worried about communication and how we would divide the work. But this time it actually went better than I expected. The assignment was not only about learning the basics of public speaking, but also about getting comfortable speaking and working with classmates. Even though we had only known each other for about two weeks, it was still a good way to start the class and get used to presenting in a more relaxed and less stressful environment. For my part of the presentation, I explained Chapter 6.1–6.3 which focused on researching your speech. This section showed how strong research can help a speak...

Blog #1  Kevin Fernandez          Firstly, our first very big assignment in Introduction to Public Speaking with Professor Sinkoff, was about taking a chapter from the textbook and then presenting. At first, I was uneasy having to work with others since I have had bad experiences in the past, yet it wasn’t bad at all. The project overall was Intended to teach us not only the basics of public speaking but Aswell as getting comfortable talking and working with others. It was kind of hard because we haven’t even known each other for more than 2 weeks, but it was a good way to start since, we were presenting in a smoother/ less pressure type of way. My group is group two, and I was paired with Krystian Garcia on chapter 4 to work together. We both divided the work evenly and I would present the first half, and he would present the second half.           Next, the part of the presentation I did, I mostly foc...

Over the past 2 weeks, our class shared four different presentations--including my own-and our presentations focused on what makes someone an effective speaker-everything from how to structure a clear message to how to present yourself confidently in front of an audience. As I listened to my classmates and later delivered my own part of the presentation, I found myself comparing our different approaches: what worked well, what surprised me, and what each speaker taught me about communication. These presentations did not just show the techniques of good public speaking; they helped me understand how those techniques actually look and feel when real people use them. The following paragraph will delve into how the presentations including my own group's presentation shaped my understanding of speaking in front of others.      The first group's presentation focused on several key elements of effective public speaking,  The first group’s presentati...

Blog Post #1 - 02/01/2026      As our first assignment for Introduction to Public Speaking with Professor Sinkoff, each group was assigned a chapter from our textbook,  Engage . My group was Group 2, in which we were tasked with “Getting Ready for a Successful Presentation.” My group and I divided each chapter between two people, and the work began.   On my portion of the presentation, I worked alongside Jehu on Chapter 6. We divided it by him doing the first half and me finishing the second half. In this section, I addressed topics such as conducting research interviews, the interview guide, evaluating your sources and information, avoiding plagiarism, taking accurate notes, paraphrasing the correct way, and lastly acknowledging your sources. All these topics are key elements in regard to preparing a speech that not only is memorable but also is credible.  I also took on the work of doing Chapter 8 alone, a personal decision I made seeing as we were ...
